Brush Roller Refurbishment

We re-plant and re-balance worn rollers — but we will tell you plainly when a small roller is cheaper to replace with a modular system than to ship back and forth.

Refurbishment for High-Value Rollers — Be Honest About When It Pays

We do refurbish worn rollers: we strip the old filament, re-plant new bristles, trim, and re-balance. For the right roller this saves 50–70% versus buying new and keeps an expensive core in service.

But we will tell you plainly when refurbishment does not pay. If your roller is a small, low-cost, one-piece unit, the round-trip freight to China plus labour usually costs more than a new roller — and takes weeks. In that case the smarter move is our modular roller system, where you only ever ship lightweight replacement segments.

Refurbishment Scope

Best forLarge/high-value cores (printing, coating, paper, large industrial)
Core salvageSteel / stainless shafts reused
FilamentSame as original or upgraded
Re-balanceDynamic balancing available
Not economical forSmall, cheap, one-piece rollers
Freight reality: refurbishment means shipping the roller to our plant and back. For a roller under ~15 kg the express freight often exceeds the cost of a new modular roller. We assess each case and will recommend "buy modular" if that is the honest cheaper path.

How Refurbishment Works

Refurbish, Modular, or New — Decision Guide

🔁 Refurbish

Core value > freight + labour. Large industrial rollers where the shaft alone costs more than a rebuild.

🧩 Modular

Standard roller, want lowest lifetime cost. Buy core once, ship only 1–3 kg segments thereafter.

🆕 New / Custom

New line, special geometry, or no existing core to save. Full custom build to drawing or sample.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is roller refurbishment actually worth it?

When the core itself is expensive (large diameter, special shaft, printing/coating grade). There the rebuild cost plus freight is far below a new roller. For small rollers it is usually not.

Why not just refurbish every worn roller?

Because you pay round-trip freight on a 10–20 kg roller. Below a certain core value, a new modular roller is cheaper and faster. We say so up front.

Do you refurbish rollers you did not originally make?

Yes. Send dimensions or the roller; we re-plant to spec or upgrade the filament if you want longer wear life.

What does refurbishment cost versus new?

Typically 30–50% of a new roller for the filament work, but add two-way freight. We give a written compare-before-you-ship assessment.

Can refurbished rollers be dynamically balanced?

Yes, dynamic balancing is available for high-speed applications and is recommended for rollers above 200 mm diameter.
